From the vacation villages in the region, you have views of the imposing mountain range around the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau from different sides.
The car-free town of Mürren lies at an altitude of 1,650 meters and is the ideal starting point for the ski area around the Schilthorn-Piz Gloria. In 1968, James Bond even skied here in the film "Her Majesty's Secret Service". The Thrill Walk on Birg still offers thrills today. The 200-meter long trail hugs the rock walls.
In the valley below, in Lauterbrunnen, things are quieter. Here you can marvel at a total of 72 waterfalls. One of the most famous is the Staubbach Falls, which cascade down the steep rock faces. Also worth seeing: the Trümmelbach glacier waterfalls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Take the train across the mountain to Wengen, which is also car-free. A fabulous view over the valley is offered free of charge. If you dare, you can ski down the world-famous Lauberhorn. Or continue to the highest railway station in Europe. You will pass through Kleine Scheidegg to reach the Jungfraujoch. In addition to breathtaking views, you will find an impressive palace made entirely of ice.
Meanwhile, the sporty mountain village of Grindelwald awaits you on the other side of the mountain. In winter, this popular vacation resort is a true skier's paradise. With the north face of the Eiger in sight, you can also enjoy a day in the snow on a sled. In summer, Grindelwald becomes a hiker's dream. After a gondola ride on the Firstbahn, a relaxing hiking trail leads you to the famous Bachalpsee lake. The crystal clear water reflects the fantastic mountain landscape. On the other side of the lake, there are beautiful hikes through lush meadows.
A valley away is the charming Haslital. 60 kilometers of slopes and 25 kilometers of winter hiking trails form a clearly laid out and family-friendly winter sports region. Night skiing is a very special experience. Every Friday you can ski on the snowy and illuminated slope of Mägisalp-Reuti. In summer, you can explore the beautiful landscape on foot or by bike. There are two adventure courses for the whole family to enjoy. With young and old, you can visit the gnome Muggestutz in his house.
The lakes Oeschinen and Blausee are probably among the most popular places for photos in the Kandertal. Both lakes are really worth a visit. It is not for nothing that Lake Oeschinen is a UNESCO world heritage site. The two communities of Kandergrund and Kandersteg are ideal starting points for hikes or bike tours to the lakes and the surrounding landscape. Around Frutigen you will find a variety of routes for the whole family. In the Tropic House, you will soon have warm feet, even in winter. Exotic fruits are grown here with the help of the naturally warm Lötschberg spring. Young and old are immediately immersed in another world. Finally, as you walk up the valley, you reach Adelboden. Here you can discover the second highest waterfalls in Switzerland. The Engstligen Falls are impressive and well worth a visit.
A winter sports arena connects two completely different valleys in the Bernese Oberland - we are of course talking about the ski area "Adelboden-Lenk...dänk!". It leads over the Hahnenmoos to Lenk, where the Simmental lies at your feet. Here, traditions and customs are very important. In the water valley, the traditional Älplerfest in Lenk is one of the highlights of the mountain summer. In winter, Lenk offers much more than just 205 kilometers of slopes. You can really let off steam on the 60 kilometers of cross-country ski trails. With this spectacular mountain panorama, a winter hike is a welcome change. On the toboggan run, you will not only encounter normal toboggans, but also airboards. This sport activity consists of lying down with your upper body on an air mattress and sliding down the slope head first. The board can be steered by shifting the weight. The Lenk resort is perfect for families. It is not for nothing that Lenk has been awarded the "Family Destination" quality label.
In Saanenland and the trendy town of Gstaad, you can easily escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Green meadows, crystal clear mountain lakes and a massive mountain panorama await you in this enchanting region. This popular ski resort has up to 200 kilometers of trails. Along the way, spectacular snow parks and 42 kilometers of cross-country ski trails are at your disposal. Enchanting winter hiking trails wind through the landscape. With 185 kilometers of trails to choose from, you'll never get bored. Something a little different is curling, which is played in the center of Gstaad. You can't imagine what curling is like? This sport is pure precision work and is played on an ice rink. A heavy, round ice stick is gripped by the handle and placed on the ice in a sweeping motion. The goal is to get as close as possible to the "stave", which is 14 meters away. Gstaad also offers a number of exciting experiences in the summer, such as canoeing or breathtaking hikes. After a varied and sporty day, it's a good idea to make a detour to the region's wellness paradise.
